Labour Day

More like Labour of Love Day, amiright? For whatever reason I got thinking about food again today. Not the daily "what's for dinner" question, but the "what do I fuel my body with" kinda question. I landed on homemade chilli. It's one of my favourite things to make, because it's not just chock full of amazing flavours and vegetables — it's a meal that keeps on giving.

You see, my pot is huge. We're talking a week of meals. Freeze some, lunch some, snack the rest. You name it.

So I went shopping for all the stuff, and somewhere in the aisles I got to thinking I should make bread bowls to put the chilli in. We'd found whole wheat flour in the pantry yesterday. I had yeast packs left over from another bread experiment, the KitchenAid with a dough hook, some avocado oil, water, black volcano salt, and a little sugar to get the yeast all hepped up and frothy. Bread bowls it was.

It turned into a whole afternoon of cooking and baking, and while the dough was rising I played with the cats and played a video game. Perfect way to spend a rainy day at the end of summer.
