Yard Full

Yard Full — The leaves have started turning in our yard, the mornings have gone crisp, and best of all, I don't have to cut the lawn. Small mercies arrive quietly at the end of August.

August is winding down; only another day of my POWER MONTH™. I don’t know what that means. I just like August. Maybe because it is my birth month, maybe because it’s summer, or maybe I don’t need a reason.

I’m looking forward to the next few months. The leaves have already started changing colour on the trees in our yard, the mornings are noticeably ‘crisper,’ and I don’t have to cut my lawn.

We have a yard full of magpies, ravens, every manner of woodpecker, squirrels, grouse, gophers, chickadees, sparrows, and newly minted bunnies.

Not long ago, a momma moose and her kids — what are junior moose called? — were cruising through our back alley. Nature is plentiful here in Canada. In the suburbs. Who knew?
