Skitchy Brain — Normally I don't drink coffee after my morning coffee. But it was just before 3 PM, I was fading fast, and my Breville gave me a coy wink. I did not make a single espresso.

No matter how many times this happens, I always say it will never happen again. There I was, minding my own business, when halfway through the day I got hit with body-level exhaustion. I still had a lot to do. It was just before 3 PM. I looked at my Breville. My Breville gave me a coy wink. I looked at my watch. I could do this.

Normally I don’t drink coffee after my morning coffee because I have a hard enough time sleeping, and late-day coffee is sure to mess with it further. Breville, however, is a temptress, and I was fading fast. Did I make an espresso? A double espresso? Nope. I made a triple espresso. I was that tired, and clearly not thinking clearly.

The rest of the day was great! Amazing things got done. Deadlines crushed. New products built. Old products retired or refurbished. I researched mortgages. Made appointments. Shipped things. I was a whirling dervish.

Fast-forward to after dinner: a nice hot bath with Epsom salts to soothe those sore muscles, then off to bed. Sleep came quickly, followed by an alertness like that of a golden retriever who has just heard the word “walk” in an unrelated sentence. My brain felt zappy.

I have been awake since 11 PM and might never sleep again.
