MST TO MDT TO PDT DST
Times they are a-changing, literally.
This weekend was the first time in a long time I’ve been on stage performing and hosting, and it was awesome. Pandemic, blah, blah, blah. Yes, the pandemic is still a thing, and here in Alberta, pretty much all restrictions have been lifted, but people and businesses are still cautious.Friday and Saturday, I hosted “Taproom Tunes,” a Name That Tune live show at Fitzsimmons Brewing Company and Railyard Brewing Company. The tables were well spaced, the patrons well behaved, and the host companies were kind, professional, and ecstatic to have a show again.
I was ecstatic to be in a show again.
“But Dargie,” you exclaim, “what’s your point?”This is a fair question. My point is simply that I have been up way past my bedtime for the last two days, and it’s playing havoc with my schedule and internal clock. I had taken to writing in the mornings but am finding this incredibly challenging when I don’t get to bed until after midnight.
And then there’s Daylight Savings Time to contend with, so it’s really an hour earlier than it should be, and I blame Thunder Bay. I read a brief history of Daylight Savings Time, and it turns out that on July 1, 1908, residents of Port Arthur, Ontario (Thunder Bay) were the first to turn their clocks forward. Jerks.
This coming week I’m travelling to Vancouver Island, which will be PDT on top of the DST, so my plan will be to write during the days while drinking lattes and watching the Pacific Ocean for whales.
I promise many more longer stories in the weeks to come, but for now, I'm going back to bed.
